Write That ish Down!!

Conquering procrastination requires action; although this sounds easier than it really is. I'm going to present an effortless three-step procedure that will assist you in taking action and achieving greater heights than ever before.

It’s fundamental to have a goal in mind. Before you can start any project, you have to know exactly what it is you're trying to achieve. If you don’t define and understand your end result, it’s hard to know how to get there. So when that happens, what do we usually do? Anything other than the task at hand.

Your mission is to put into words what you know needs to be done. A great goal has defined parameters and a set deadline. That doesn't have to be elaborate. Here's a standard objective that everybody attempts to accomplish. We must submit our taxes before April 15th. You know pretty well the documents you need, the forms you must fill out, and where to send them. You also understand your expiration date. To put it another way, when it comes time to filing taxes, you have a very specific target in mind. I am aware that we all typically procrastinate with this chore. That's why the remaining steps are just as significant as the first one. For now consider one thing you must finish and create a goal out of it.

Record your goal. It doesn't matter if you scribble it onto a slip of paper, jot it into your favorite notebook, or send yourself a text message with the information. The key is to formally record what you are trying to accomplish. Doing this serves two purposes. For one, it forces you to be clear and precise in defining what you wish to do. Additionally, writing it down creates an external reference that can be revisited when needed - like when temptation strikes and procrastination sets in.

It's time to start. Isn't that the toughest part? Put on your shoes, and let's get going. Now that you have a goal in mind, think of something you can do right away to take a step closer. Go do that, then come back for more. Every morning, look at your goal and push yourself to do something about it. Before long, you'll be making real progress and beating procrastination.
